Promoting civil discourse on pressing issues of the day across the North Shore
We are excited to discuss our latest book selection with the author himself, so join us and register early for NSCC's next book club discussion in February!
We will be reading "The Feather Thief" by Kirk Wallace Johnson, a fascinating true crime story about "Beauty, Obsession and the Natural History Heist of the Century". The book uncovers the hidden world of illegal feather trading and the dark history of humanity's obsession with feathers. Johnson's years-long investigation exposes the challenges in navigating legal complexities, secrecy among enthusiasts, and recovering the purloined feathers. It illustrates both the immense worth of museum archives for researchers and the lingering consequences when humanity's natural heritage is violated.
We will meet at a Lake Forest location which will be disclosed to all registrants closer to the date. The Author will be joining us virtually.
Registration is limited and available to club members and their guests only. Drinks, appetizers and dessert will be served.
NSCC members who purchase the book from the Lake Forest Book Store or The Book Stall in Winnetka will receive a 15% discount.
For the Lake Forest Book store, just mention the North Shore Civic Club when you check out.
